With the sun shining and a light breeze flowing, 4th grade students eagerly ventured to the shores of Cutler Pond with handmade boats in tow for the 29th annual Recess Regatta. Led by Commodore Dr. Oettinger and cheered on by the Brookwood community, "sailors" watched with anticipatory delight to see which boat would make it to the duck house first. Congratulations to Phoebe, Scarlett and Lilah, and three cheers for all of the 4th grade students who crafted seaworthy (or perhaps more apropos, pondworthy) vessels!
While the Recess Regatta is a highlight for the 4th grade, it's also a school-wide celebration with representatives from Lower School racing alongside Middle and Upper School boats -- students are invited to bring their boats back for a second, third, fourth, or even fifth year following their maiden solo voyage in 4th grade. The Recess Regatta continues to be a beloved Brookwood tradition that honors the art and science of woodworking and celebrates joyful comradeship.
