Thanks to the Parents' Association Cultural Enrichment Committee, today's School Meeting featured a cook-off competition between Brookwood School's own Chef Chris Tighe and Celebrity Chef Anna Rossi, a MasterChef Season 3 finalist who has cooked along side culinary greats like Gordon Ramsay, Graham Elliot and Joe Bastianich. She can now add Chef Chris to this impressive list! Chef Anna has contributed to Northshore Magazine, taught in Ming Tsai’s kitchen at the Clarke Culinary Center, and is currently a correspondent for NBC10 Boston. Chef Chris and Chef Anna were joined by special guest judge Frank McLelland, who is a current Brookwood parent as well as a James Beard award-winning chef, cookbook author and proprietor of Boston's L’Espalier restaurant.
The excitement was palpable as the timer was set for 25 minutes and the competition heated up! Chef Chris and Chef Anna selected ingredients from an assortment of fruits, vegetables and proteins to craft their own unique version of tacos. As students, employees and parents looked on, Andy Luman and Chef Frank provided a play-by-play of the action.
Chef Anna selected root vegetables, fennel, radishes, cilantro, cod fish, red quinoa, paprika, red pepper, mango, avocados, garlic and lime to cook fish tacos. Upon tasting her dish, Chef Frank noted the fresh flavor and nice balance of ingredients. Chef Chris used hard and soft taco shells, cumin, flank steak, cheese, spices, fresh jicama, corn, tomato and lime zest to create steak tacos. Chef Frank mentioned the nice heat, good seasoning, and crunchy texture, resulting in a "tremendous dish." Ultimately, the results were left up to the student body -- who enjoyed both versions of the tacos at lunch today. While a final tally wasn't officially compiled, rumor has it the Chefs tied! Bravo to Chef Chris and Chef Anna for creating such delicious, healthy dishes, and thank you to Andy Luman and Chef Frank for joining in on the fun.
